While many high school graduates feel they are academically ready for college, many are not emotionally ready for the independence and freedom of campus life.
More than 85% of college students feel overwhelmed, 51% feel hopeless at some point. Others feel extremely anxious, depressed, and overreat or undereat, or drink-drug too much to deal with these feelings.
Many have not thought about how to deal with their freedom in advance and often their parents have not helped them more into a more responsible and independent state. Counseling could help the parents as well as the adult children deal with this transition.
