There is a fantasy floating about that being rich makes people happy. However, there is a good deal of research that indicates that this is not true. Emotional well being rises once people have their basic needs met in a reliable way. But, happiness does not increase as more income is accumulated.
While the per capita income in the USA has tripled since the late 1950’s the percentage of people reporting that they are very happy has declined somewhat.
Most peoples’ feelings of well being depends on who they compare themselves with. Meaning that happiness is relative.
